Ask HN: What's your opinion about cloud based IDEs?
Recently there has been a lot of interesting cloud based IDE launches: Github Codespaces, JetBrains Fleet, AWS Cloud9 (this one has been around for a while). What's your opinion about these IDEs?
- mikewarot 5y agoThat is an awful lot of trust to place in a 3rd party with a profit motive. Look at all the services that have been dropped suddenly across the years. Compiles happen in less than a second, why would you need to push that work out to the cloud?
- nabi_nafio 5y agoThat is a really good point. One thing that I found interesting is that most of the native desktop applications are moving to the cloud. For example, web browser: Mighty (https://www.mightyapp.com/ https://www.mightyapp.com/), Design tool: Canva (https://www.canva.com/en_gb/ https://www.canva.com/en_gb/), and many more like these.
