If CentOS Stream is the same as the next version of RHEL for any given point in time, what is Fedora?
- mroche 5y agoCentOS Stream is what will become the next _minor_ version of RHEL, Fedora is used as the foundation for the next _major_ version. At the current point in time, the work for RHEL 9.0 is currently happening in Stream 9, which forked from Fedora 34 for its base. As we approach the release of 9.0, Stream will move to start tracking 9.1 development. In three years, Fedora will be forked again (estimating Fedora 40) and that will be used as the base for EL10, and all EL10 development will then happen in Stream 10. The work in Stream 10 will then produce all of RHEL 10's minor versions (10.0 beta, 10.0, 10.1 beta, ... 10.10). Stream only exists within the context of Enterprise Linux, it doesn't in anyway replace Fedora.
