How to Quiet Your Mind Chatter
- HamburgerEmoji 5y agoThis is not good advice. Buddhists have been studying how to quiet the mind for the last 26 centuries, and I think their advice is a lot better. The basic theory is, distractions and intrusive thoughts are due to craving, and craving is accompanied by muscle tension, including subtle tension in the head. Right after realizing that the mind has been distracted again, you have a special opportunity to reduce the likelihood of that concern coming back again. In other words, you have an opportunity to soothe that concern and tell the brain that it is not so bad, that it is not such a worrisome thing. Right after realizing that the mind has been distracted, release the distraction, meaning stop going further into the fantasy. Relax throughout the body. Bring a small smile to the mouth. Bring up a wholesome feeling, like the feeling of kindness you feel when playing with a puppy or trying to get a baby to laugh. This is how you apply medicine to the concerns of the mind and gradually get them to stop intruding and bothering you.
