Meta (Facebook) Selects AWS as Key, Long-Term Strategic Cloud Provider
- ksec 5y agoThis should be on the front page. What will happen to Open Compute Platform? Why are they doing this? Facebook still have 2 - 3 datacenter under construction.
- T3RMINATED 5y agoRest in peace Azure
- RC_ITR 5y agoI think the fact that $amzn didn't move on this news is proof that hedge fund's have done a bad job of updating their 'facebook' web scrapers to read the word 'meta' in context.
- geoduck14 5y agoWhy? Why now? Fb already has massive data centers all over the place. They are self hosted and can't be taken down (like Parler). They've figured out the complexities. What do they gain from going into AWS?

- samspenc 5y ago> Meta uses AWS’s proven infrastructure and comprehensive capabilities to complement its existing on-premises infrastructure, and will broaden its use of AWS compute, storage, databases, and security services to provide privacy, reliability, and scale in the cloud. I don't think this is such a big deal. Almost all major companies (with the exception of the major cloud providers themselves of course) use the public cloud to handle some elastic compute and storage. How much depends on each company, and I wouldn't be surprised if Meta / Facebook moves a small amount of its non-core business operations to the public cloud. Funny thing is I would have expected them to move it to Azure, given that they have a good partnership with Microsoft and use Office 365 across the company. But I guess they prefer to diversify using Amazon AWS for the "cloud" part and Microsoft for their documents, spreadsheets etc.
