Danish children struggle to learn their language
- eesmith 5y ago40 different vowel sounds?! I need a syggelekokle for that.
- macmac 5y agoMy (Danish) 15 year old strongly prefers speaking and writing English, because it is much easier and (almost) universally useful.
- dusted 5y agoWell, maybe because our language is a mess, we're a tiny nation with what.. 10 different dialects and at least 4 actively used accents (with each their own incompatible words), on top of that we have a gender system of "gendered" and "nongendered" and no rules whatsoever for determining which of them a word is. We pronounce the same letters differently depending on which words they appear in, if we even pronounce them at all. On top of that, our school system was reformed years ago to save money, meaning that troubled and mentally handicapped kids are now forced into the same, overfilled classrooms as everyone else, making sure that only those with absolute knife-sharp focus can get anything out of it at all. Correcting any of this is hard, since our mentality is very much that we're the greatest thing since (and probably also before) sliced bread, everything about us is so great that North Koreans would get embarrassed on our behalf if they heard half of it. How do you fix that which is already perfect?
