IYI(s) (as coined by N. Taleb) at work here. A sample of this manipulative hog-wash mix of politics-foreign-affairs-socialism-scientism (a model of reality) opinion:
"Researchers found that a global temperature target can be met while also increasing wellbeing, reducing inequality and alleviating poverty, if each country or region imposes a substantial carbon tax and refunds the revenues to its citizens on an equal per capita basis."
Simply 'wow' for the low point that academics are nowadays not afraid to scoop, talking about something they have no way of even to begin conceiving in its complexity, let alone derive principles of action. This is manipulative pandering dressed in science language, aim to conceal rather to reveal - it is depressing to see this in a science journal. At its core, as I would argue, it is a message of nihilism, war, slavery and poverty (as of principle from which it springs and solution these ivory tower technocrats want to impose). If you want a message of hope, meaning, ecological active approach: lets watch, learn, implement ideas of true ecologists, Allan Savory and his transformation of deserts into productive grasslands, or Donado Nobre on atmospheric rivers, or any of the ecologists out there in the physical world, measuring, learning and doing real work.
Of cause, mandatory Th. Sowell quote of principe:
"It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong."
