Euro-telcos want big tech to help pay for their networks
- ggm 5y agoNot unexpected after Korea. The European telcos have form for this kind of move. Telecom Italia built out DC and then whined when Italian companies didn't want to use it (at inflated rents) so they leveraged the European operators group to argue for some kind of mandated telco hotel model (I think it was discussed at a RIPE meeting) No matter who they ask to pay it's coming back on users as cost if it happens. Surely by now they realise the old Erlang models of overcommitted links doesn't work. Can't they just up fibre transponder speeds and move on? The marginal cost against revenue has to be small. Oh wait.. the congestion may be in the customer access network (CAN) and thats pits and pipes everywhere.
