Almost everyone should be less afraid of lawsuits
- scotuswroteus 5y agoThis guy has never heard of attorney fees: "The worst case isn't that awful If you are sued, try everything you can, lose anyway, and can't afford to pay the judgment, your wages can be garnished, but only up to 25% (in some states less, in Texas nothing at all)."
- mg5150 5y ago> I'm not an attorney myself, but my best guess is that letting litigation fears stop you is often a mistake, and I've given this advice to friends several times before. In other words, this is just some rando's opinion with no basis in reality? Nice of them to state this in the first paragraph and spare us the effort of reading the rest of their post.
- AtlasBarfed 5y agoThe article seems a bit weakly argued. I think LARGE BUSINESSES should be less scared of being sued. Why? They usually have lawyers on retainer, or have legal departments as an already sunk cost. This is such a massive power ability of the granted-full-citizenship-by-the-supreme-court immortal large corporation. The legal system is crazily expensive for anyone that isn't mega-rich. I'm very glad all these employees of large corporations are afraid of lawsuits. Because if we aren't, the US would be a much scarier place for the poor, and it already is. Corporations could bully anyone they wanted with the threat of a lawsuit. They already do, but luckily since 99% of people aren't worth enough money to be worthwhile targets, it's usually business on business suits.
