A man goes around with a sharpie destroying QR codes
- aurizon 5y agoWow, with one black spot I can buy caviar for the price of sugar at the market? - not so easy, you would have to find 2 commodities that differed by that one spot that was missing from the 'caviar' so adding it made it read as 'sugar'. This is a very rare beast. We know that shoplifters already create fake bar codes that stick over the existing bar code so the system thinks it is a cheaper item. Places like Costco and Home Depot have been robbed by label mongers, so the staff are now trained to read the added security code or the maker's name or other text to verify items for discrepancies. The thieves are aware of this, so they will steal - say an expensive power tool with a label for the same make power tool - but a cheaper one with the label trick.
