This model of oncall (what I currently operate off) is less abusive than how DevOps teams were run at my last company. I would get called on days off, evenings, weekends. As late as 1am. I once brought my laptop to a Cubs game, because I knew I would get called (and I did). It was mostly because Devs broke the build, and their managers refused to have them learn how to triage that themselves because it would be extra responsibility.
