Absolutely - to my mind vaccines should be used to drive infections to very low levels, if not complete eradication, for the reason you state. I believe that all of our successful vaccination campaigns (against highly contagious viruses) have by necessity resulted in (near) eradication. E.g. Polio, Smallpox, Measles, Rabies (in animals)
