This is 100% despicable. I thought my own imagined PowerShell based Linux Distro would be insidious enough, but this, this is an absolute, pure evil.
- revskill 5y agoBecause of sharing. Write your function once then u can import to use it everywhere, from server to frontend, mobile or desktop app. Why reinventing the wheel ?
- d_tr 5y agoBut it somehow reached the "everywhere" status first...
- revskill 5y agoWe have a project which's converted into a monorepo due to need of syncing and sharing. Imaging you have a web app and a mobile app, when the web app has changes, u need to sync changes to mobile app as well. What's the best way to do it ? Besides javascript, i can't know a better way then. Our team has only 2 devs working on all server, web and mobile appp.
- d_tr 5y agoThis is certainly sensible. My point was that IMHO it is unfortunate that it is JavaScript that has risen to be this single language.
- laumars 5y agoIf there are only two people in your dev team then you absolutely wouldn’t be writing OS components as well as web apps regardless of the languages natively supported by the OS.
- laumars 5y agoLove the people who downvoted me who optimistically think a 2 man corporate web dev team would have the bandwidth to push OS patches through too. Hilarious stuff. Edit: and getting flagged for pointing out how ridiculous these idiots are too. Fanboys must be out in force this weekend.
- datenarsch 5y agoOh yea let's build an OS where we can just import our kernel-mode drivers from the repository of quality code that is NPM. I mean what could possibly go wrong, right? I'm sorry but we need less NodeJS and JavaScript in this world, not more.
- emteycz 5y agoYou're just picking something to hate and it's not even correct. It's not true that OS==kernel. The kernel is Linux, and this is replacing the GNU stuff around it with something else. The result is a new kind of OS. But nobody said that any privileged code will be written in JS.
- LogonType10 5y agoJava tried this a while ago. "Compile once, debug everywhere."
