Probably some major breakthrough in neurotechnology or longevity research that hasn't happened yet. Any step in that direction has a cascading effect for the future towards singularity because either (a) humans become augmented and transferred into immortal machines (which will eventually construct the singularity) or (b) they just live long enough to do the same, or both. I 'm afraid rockets and 3d avatars are not getting us any closer.
