This article is about "elite overproduction" that gets mentioned a lot around here, with the claim that when too many elites don't get jobs, they begin to agitate politically.
It's worth noting that this idea has been around right-wing thinkers far longer than the "Dalrymple and Turchin" ideas that are mentioned here (for example: https://www.deseret.com/2011/5/12/20191072/thomas-sowell-soft-education-produces-useless-people-and-is-also-dangerous https://www.deseret.com/2011/5/12/20191072/thomas-sowell-sof...). However, in these conservative circles, this well known political instability is thought to come from too many educated people who specifically have no useful skills, and just get an education in "ideas" - which usually entails a political indoctrination rather than an actual education.
Anyway I mention this because the article is about how a large number of over educated females might affect the case of elite overproduction. One should note that while 57% of graduates are women, only 38% of STEM graduates are women. I would suggest that perhaps what is being studied by female graduates is far more relevant to any political instability that might arise than the gender of the people studying it.
