The Underhanded C Contest
- tait 5y agoLooks like the site hasn't been updated in a while - that's a shame, it was fun to learn from new posts. I guess my failing to notice that it wasn't updated for 5+ years may correlate, somehow, to the reason it was down...?
- mike_hock 5y agoSo has it gotten revived or is it only kept for posterity now?
- fishbacon 5y agoIOCCC is still running https://www.ioccc.org/ https://www.ioccc.org/ It is not exactly the same but it has a lot of the same vibe.
- dane-pgp 5y agoThe idea was briefly kept alive in the form of the Underhanded Rust Contest[0], announced in 2016, but there were some practical problems organising it, according to an attempt in 2019 to revive it again.[1] [0] https://blog.rust-lang.org/2016/12/15/Underhanded-Rust.html https://blog.rust-lang.org/2016/12/15/Underhanded-Rust.html [1] https://github.com/rust-community/team/issues/256 https://github.com/rust-community/team/issues/256
- grenoire 5y agoWhat happened to the 2015 contest results?
- 5- 5y agoeven though it's well known and regularly appears on hn, the international obfuscated c code contest still needs to be mentioned here. https://www.ioccc.org/ https://www.ioccc.org/
- goalieca 5y agoI would love to see a yaml themed version of the contest. It feels like just as much of a minefield as anything else.
- b0rsuk 5y agoIt would make sense for Rust to sponsor this contest.
- mikeodds 5y agoThere have been a couple of underhanded solidity contests (smart contracts on ETH), inspired by this. https://underhanded.soliditylang.org/ https://underhanded.soliditylang.org/ Nice to people constantly putting the code examples to good use in real projects.
- glouwbug 5y ago> Like several entries, this short (99 line) submission filters out dirty words, with an array of curse-replacement pairs, e.g. { “fnord”, “fn*rd”, “Matlab”, “M****b” }. Hilarious writing. It's sad to think most of these submissions can just be innocent day to day use cases
