Of course you do, if you're starting from scratch. But since we tend to work on the Internet, which has a long history and myriad data formats and protocols, we often (rightly) use regex to validate and parse.
- selfhoster11 5y agoIn the Unix philosophy, that means you have a series of tools that each deal with one of these protocols. If you do one job, do it well - and regex is a bad, if very quick, solution to structured data parsing problems.
