I thought about buying an ebike. I especially thought that going further than normal is indeed a great feature. Though, I've noticed just any decent second hand Dutch bike with a few gears will provide some of that as well since it allows you to give the maximum output that you desire. What I'm scared off with ebikes is that I'll be going too fast. On normal bikes I already go too fast. I recently got in an accident by getting stuck in the tram rails for the first time in my life and that went fine because I was cycling about 20km/h, but even the notch up to 25km/h or higher, I wonder what would've happened. I used to own a scooter that went 45km/h and had one very nasty fall from that once. With both these accidents I was in retrospect quite lucky in an unlucky situation. I guess it doesn't help that The Netherlands doesn't care about cycling helmets and that I also would never want to wear one.
