- pmarcelll 5y agoThere is a significant amount of time between starting the development of a CPU die on a specific node and actually releasing the final product onto the market. This has already happened for Zen 4 on 5nm (so R&D/product development has moved to 5nm a long time ago) and the article is probably about Zen 5 (current gen is Zen 3 on 7nm).
- qayxc 5y agoWell, they can't move to 5nm because Apple bought basically the entire 5nm production from TSMC. In other words, they couldn't move to 5nm because they wouldn't be able to procure any significant volume from it. Why bother with 5nm if you wouldn't be able to ship products? That's exactly why NVIDIA ditched TSMC in favour of Samsung despite their inferior process.
- kuschku 5y agoBecause Apple had bought 100% of 5nm capacity, and so no capacity at 5nm was available to AMD?
