The UK Just Banned Default Passwords for IoT Devices
- mcraiha 5y agoIn case someone is wondering, "default" is very common password. e.g. in Nordpass list it is on spot 58. https://nordpass.com/json-data/top-worst-passwords/pdfs/worst-passwords-2020.pdf https://nordpass.com/json-data/top-worst-passwords/pdfs/wors...
- maltalex 5y agoUnfortunately, this will probably just cause manufacturers to use easily guessable "unique" passwords like the model number plus a couple of random characters. So grandma will be locked out, but not anyone capable of writing a script. Still, at least it looks like an effort in the right direction.
- truculent 5y agoWhy would they do that and not use a UUID or other strong password? It has been commonplace in the UK for routers to come with strong, unique passwords out of the box and they are even more consumer-facing.
