Managing a large project with basic tools is a nightmare, it also sucks for learning an API. I've tried to use VS Code for C++ and C# stuff, but it's such a poor tool compared to Visual Studio proper. I don't feel I'm learning anything useful by wrestling with the fiddly JSON build configurations in VS Code.
