I've been on quite the mech board journey since March 2020. Have owned and resold:
- Filco majestouch ninja (cherry brown)
- Microsoft Sculpt
- Kinesis Advantage 2 (KB600 - cherry brown)
- Kinesis Advantage 2 LF (KB600LFQ - cherry silent red)
- Topre Realforce 87UB (variable weight switches)
- Topre Realforce 87USW (variable weight silenced switches)
and after all that, i've landed back on the good old Apple Magic keyboard (sans numpad).
I can't really explain why, other than to draw an analogy with my vim configuration. I've found that the more experience I accumulate (almost 20yrs to date), the simpler my vim configuration has become. To the extent that my init.vim is <100 loc from somewhere near 500 at its peak.
I view moving back to the apple keyboard is another simplification of my setup, becoming less reliant on a special keyboard / layout, although this was never my intention at the start. It's comfortable and I can type >100wpm accurately and without undue stress on my fingers or wrists. (caveat - I touch type and use mostly correct fingers for each key).
What i'm realising typing this out is that my loop through the wonderful world of mechanical keyboards was driven from an undercurrent of being generally bored, both from WFH COVID lockdowns and being bored with my current work assignment. The devil makes work eh...
