I've passively ignored most of what is popular culture since high school. Which is to say I'm not hiding under a rock, but I'm not feeling left out if I don't have my finger on the pulse. I _always_ miss some film, tv and music when it's current, but I easily catch up on it years later. Theater is the only cultural genre where you 'use it or lose it', and I accept that bargain. I have learned that expounding on what you don't know makes you sound like an idiot and/or a snob. Boy, it can be very tempting though when people are talking about reality TV empires.
