All billionaires do this. It's a common pattern because they know that media influences opinions and shapes the politics of large groups of people. There's nothing special about Bill in terms of donations to media outlets.

- holonomically 5y agoI guess it doesn't hurt. I personally don't follow gossip about billionaires so seems like a waste of money if that's why they do it.

- jessaustin 5y agoAs stated, TFA only has a partial list of Gates's media "donations", but he and his various firms and foundations give lots of money to politicians, too. This includes many Republicans, in case someone was laboring under the delusion that there is a significant difference between them and the Democrats.
