Meta delays encrypted messages on Facebook and Instagram to 2023

- donkarma 5y agoI wish we could just call it Facebook, getting pretty annoyed with company names that are just a single noun.
- smoldesu 5y agoLike Apple, Amazon, Google, etc.?
- red369 5y agoI'm not the person you're replying to - the name 'Meta' annoys me more than those you mentioned, but I don't know why. I'm hoping your point will change my feelings. Does anyone else usually forget that Google spell their name differently to the number? I think I would probably write googleplex instead of the correct spelling (if I ever needed to).
- 1cvmask 5y agoThe twin pillars of censorship and weak encryption by governments is terrorism and child sex. Meanwhile they both exist independent of Instagram and FB Messenger. Many have their own stack of OSes and communication channels and never resort to the usual suspects even if they claimed to be end-to-end encrypted. They would probably use a Shanzai type of phone with their own stack placed on top of it or some open source solution. Will we now ban Mastodon? - Building your own phone with your parts of choice is not hard at all if you are willing to go to Shenzhen at all. You can piece it together there with off the shelf parts and flash the OS of your choice on to it (probably some Android distro).
