This post is a good step. I'd add "network, network, network". Tell everyone you know that you are looking. (At least ones that won't get back to your current management). Go to meetups in your area (or online). Talk to everyone. Ask what they are looking for. Particularly at smaller companies, people hire people they think would be fun to work with. Connect with people!
