As I've been touch typing for 35 years and never look at the keyboard, I like to make my keyboards unusable to my kids to encourage them to stay off my computers. I currently use the Das Keyboard Ultimate, which has plain black keys with no lettering.
The hardcore elvish looks nice though and might work pretty well in an office environment. Although I might go Dwarvish for my data mining needs.
The best setup to drive people made is arranging the keys alphabetically. It's tougher on a person who can't touch type than having blanks.
- pc86 5y agoI love my blacked out WASD V3 but find myself typing all the special characters (!@#$%^&*()) any time I need one I don't type often, especially outside of coding scenarios.
- jihadjihad 5y agoI have a blank WASD V2 without a numpad, and what has been the most surprising to me is how poor I am at typing numerals. The special characters I all have memorized in terms of position, which makes it especially odd that whenever I have to type out my phone number it takes me a solid five seconds, and I mess it up frequently. If I mapped my phone number to symbols and memorized it, I think I'd be much faster!
