Apple iMac Pro to have 20-core M1 Max Duo SoC that combines two M1 Max dies
- ksec 5y agoThere are at least some evidence that I could be wrong about bigger die M1 [1], linking two die together would be a 2S System for 2 CPU and CrossFire for 2 GPU. How would that work? For professional application this has worked fine. But Crossfire GPU ( Or Nvidia SLI ) never worked for Gaming. I guess I was blindside by Gaming preference. Really interesting to see how they do it if it is true. Zen 2 basically got rid of ( or lessens ) NUMA problem with a centralise memory controller. That is why Chiplet worked for them. And that why Zen 1 wasn't great. But it sort of get much more complicated on a 4 Die version. A two Die version is easier to deal with. Which is why Jade 4C still doesn't make much sense. Edit: I cant find it anywhere but I remember TSMC and AMD announced their version of EMIB or CoWoS was coming ahead of schedule. And it turns out their interposer size is the same as 4x M1 Max Die Size. At a potential of 500W+ TDP Design. Still doesn't solve NUMA issue though. A long with all other 4 Die Controller issues.
