America Decided to Leave Afghanistan–Now Leave Them in Peace
- jfengel 5y agoIt's an odd choice of phrasing. Leaving them to themselves is something we can, and almost certainly should, do. Leaving them in peace isn't really an option. It's a violent situation. Arguably one we provoked and mismanaged, though it was certainly there before us. Regardless of our fault, it's just weird to try to say "leave them in peace" because they won't. The article is optimistic that they will. I hope so, for their sake. And for the world's sake and the sake of its marginalized people, I hope it turns out better than many believe it will. There's certainly nothing we can do to make it better.
