Why isn't Outlook (or any email client) using a sandbox when opening attachments today? It would be a real benefit to users if the next version of Outlook had that virtual machine capability.
- eli 15y agoHow would that work? Is Excel also running in that VM? Not much of a sandbox.
- wglb 15y agoSandboxes are a fairly new idea, and they are hard to write, and hard to get right.
- sid0 15y agoMail clients (at least Outlook and Thunderbird) mark attachments as untrusted, and then it's up to the application to open them safely.
