So, not to play devil's advocate, and I'm sure they would push against a federal law just as hard, but I can understand a reluctance to allow state specific privacy laws. That sucks, and compliance would be very expensive and complicated.
- nr2x 5y agoUltimately they are fighting the tide with a broom: most people - most voters - want stricter tech regulation. - Sebguer 5y agoA majority of the country has wanted legal weed for ~12 years now, so I wouldn't put too much stock in the American government representing the actual desires and interests of the population.

Do you think a majority of Americans could agree on something even as basic as "should social media companies be required to censor/moderate content on their platforms more or less?"
