Tesla Subjects Women to ‘Rampant Sexual Harassment,’ Suit Says
- 37ef_ced3 5y agoTesla's CEO was sexually harassing the chair of the Senate Finance Committee on Twitter the other day: "Why does ur pp look like u just came?" And let's not forget another tweet from Tesla's CEO (Oct 27, 2020): "Jack in the Box should do double duty as a sperm donor clinic... Wow, this mayo sure is salty!" This is a peek at Tesla's culture.

- pmarreck 5y ago> "Why does ur pp look like u just came?" Let's put things in perspective here. The chair came up with an absolutely idiotic idea (just using "it's time for a billionaire's tax" without any explanation what that would look like (a "wealth tax"? Extremely mixed results based on evidence), much less why it is ethical. His tweet amounted to a base-pandering swipe against very successful individuals "just because". Hence Musk's mocking reply with a meme. If you want one-percenters to pay more taxes, be mad at tax law, not those individuals. No one pays a dime more than they have to in taxes. Jealousy is not an argument. Want to raise capital-gains taxes? You're going to upset millions of retirees who factored that into their financial retirement plans. This is not a simple problem, and simply stating "durr hurr billionaire's tax" is thus not productive whatsoever (except to your less-intelligent voting constituents). Furthermore, to prove that at least the concern for his lack of contribution to government waste was not lost on him, he sold a ton of stock. So now he will owe a gigantic amount of tax money that he could have reinvested into the prosperity of thousands more individuals. When Musk is damned when he does and also damned when he doesn't, perhaps you have a bias on your hands.
- ecf 5y ago> Let’s put things in perspective here. The chair came up with an absolutely idiotic idea…” Put your money where your mouth is and start regularly insulting people in meetings when they have a bad idea. I wonder how long it’ll be before you’re canned. You won’t.
- pmarreck 5y agoThis wasn't a meeting, and these people are not in the same company. You are comparing two completely dissimilar situations.
- nescioquid 5y ago> If you want one-percenters to pay more taxes, be mad at tax law, not those individuals. In general, where do you think those tax laws came from?
- pmarreck 5y agoThe electorate, based on the fact that the elected president has managed to change tax law numerous times, at least stateside?
- 37ef_ced3 5y agoThere's no excuse for sexual harassment, public sexual humiliation. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, let alone from the CEO of a company like Tesla. We're talking about a CEO who intentionally smeared the reputation of another man by publicly insinuating that the man was a pedophile. It's beyond the pale. You should ask yourself, "Why am I defending the sexually degrading behavior of Tesla's CEO?"
- hellojesus 5y agoTo me it reads more like a mixture between normal man-to-man chatter (aka, locker room talk) and someone who's grown up on the internet and imbues its dialect. Most of his comments are typical of netspeak. While it's definitely not professional, I have trouble finding it appalling and quite often get a good chuckle out of it.
- the_only_law 5y agoI’m all for people remaining open and curious to youth culture as they age, but there’s something about a 50 something year old man shitposting as if he were a 15 year old on Discord makes me cringe.

- kranke155 5y agoElon has gotten less mature as he’s gotten richer. Becoming the richest person in the world seems to have affected him almost like dementia.
- theplumber 5y ago"Old" people are boring. They dont start Tesla companies either
- the_only_law 5y agoSpeaking like a petulant teenager is not particularly “interesting”
- geofft 5y agoTo be clear, Musk did not start Tesla.
- bigodbiel 5y agoIf TSLA valuation was crashing, but it isn’t. So he keeps doing it. You can even make a point that now it’s his fiduciary duty to keep on acting as such, as it has proven incredibly profitable for shareholders.
- dragonwriter 5y ago> Elon has gotten less mature as he’s gotten richer. It’s not uncommon as people have less need to listen to people saying “no” to them for them to conform less to general social expectations.
- thatguy0900 5y agoBringing up that jack in the box joke is pretty rediculous, and I'm no fan of Elon. There's plenty to criticize without reaching that hard.
- 37ef_ced3 5y agoIf I made a semen-tasting joke like that on Slack at work, I would be reprimanded or fired. It is obviously inappropriate as public communication from Tesla's CEO.
- rowanG077 5y agoIt's not done at work, that's not even a remotely valid comparison. Twitter is an open platform that is not a professional setting. People should be able to talk about something and let it be unaffiliated with the company they work for.
- theplumber 5y ago>> People should be able to talk about something and let it be unaffiliated with the company they work for. I doubt that's doable. What if the CEO of Pfizer goes to antivax protests or suports them online(i.e on Twitter)? I'm pretty sure the board /shareholders would (rightfully) send him home the next day.
- rowanG077 5y agoI agree that he would be send home. I disagree that it would be rightfull.
- oceanplexian 5y agoThis is a weird standard that has appeared as of late. I don’t believe most of what you do outside of work should have any bearing on your job. Publicly disparaging your company, sure. Being convicted of a crime, sure. But being fired for a tweet in poor taste or attending a political protest is ridiculous.
- rndmind 5y agoI agree with the other posters, that evidence is extremely weak and it makes you look like the boy who cried wolf.
- 37ef_ced3 5y agoWe're talking about a CEO who intentionally smeared the reputation of another man by publicly insinuating that the man was a pedophile. And TITS, always good for a laugh: "Am thinking of starting new university: Texas Institute of Technology & Science ... It will have epic merch ... Universally admired" This behavior, in public, from Tesla's CEO, lends substantial credence to the claims made in the lawsuit (i.e., "rampant sexual harassment").
- rndmind 5y agoshrugs sometimes you have to choose your battles
