Android is Open Source, Google Play & Google Play Services are not. Developers are free to build Android apps that don't use anything related to Google Play.
- judge2020 5y agoAnd, as far as I can tell, Google is the one making most features and patches to AOSP. Just because it's OSS doesn't mean it is operating independently, running only on donations.
