I’m not deeply familiar with all the dynamics either. From what I can tell, the sitting government was democratically elected and passed a set of laws that are legitimately in effect per the laws of the land. Then a relatively small number of people used violence, widespread destruction, and intentional (illegal) disruption for over a year. Now the government is caving in to those forces that operated outside their Democratic process and laws. This is likely a strategy to secure votes for upcoming elections, but the optics of it looking like caving into terrorism makes the government look weak.
- rektide 5y agothe reverence you show for law, & disdain for those struggling, does not align with where i am on the D&D alignment chart. imo law is usually immoral when it is blind to the mandate of the people. i'm not into the kind of republican-ism that says, these are the leaders, what they say goes. to discard these people, to discredit them, to rule them out entirely, as you have, is a strong no go. the situation is more nuanced than that to me.
- ddingus 5y agoSame. Similar laws were passed in South America and the outcome was many small farmers, high food diversity, many communities working harmoniously with all that making for a rich culture and ways of life all paved over... I suspect similar dynamics are playing out in India. Plus, did those people not just gather to do a 250 MILLION strong strike over these farming law changes?

That is more people acting in solidarity in opposition than we have in our entire labor force here in the US.
