I don't think China had any preference on whether the world was going to wear masks. Let's not vilify them too much. This has nothing to do with the origin of the virus which is the only topic that seems to make them touchy.
- SV_BubbleTime 5y agoIt’s not exactly freakenomics to point out how many masks are made in China though.
- blago 5y agoThe GP was suggesting that China was somehow opposed to wearing masks.
- nitrogen 5y agoI think it's more that they were suggesting that an aggressive response to COVID19 would have appeared to be an anti-China move, and thus further jeopardize the US relationship with China.
- maxerickson 5y agoPandering to China wasn't a particular priority of the US government at the time. Is the idea that mask policy would make up for all the politicians calling it "the China virus"?
