Cryptographers fight to keep ‘crypto’ prefix
- adfm 5y agoCrypto-fascism takes on a new meaning. I'm surprised this didn't come up in the article, since the guardian is cited as a primary source of the term dating back to the 1920s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crypto-fascism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crypto-fascism
- h2odragon 5y agoBah, there's money involved, you've lost it. Take the opportunity to choose a new, sexier name for the discipline: Obfuscationarianism, perhaps. Entropists.
- waste_monk 5y agoPractitioners of the occult.
- Xophmeister 5y agoBut the “crypto” in cryptocurrency is named after cryptographic hashes. If the academic discipline changed its name, that should percolate down until you’re back at square one. e.g., Entropists -> entropic hashing -> entrocurrency.
- h2odragon 5y agobut all hashing is entropy reduction, "cryptographic" or not. surely thats negentropic currency?
