Buy now, pay later in Microsoft Edge
- Anunayj 5y agoI do not understand why browsers keep "building" stuff into the browser, this is exactly what plugins are for, stop adding stuff I will never use to the base browser. Looking at you there Brave too.
- hakfoo 5y agoI figured this was some sort of screed about "Okay, you gave up being the third independent browser engine and now you're losing control over your own platform." Nope, it's an actual integration with a buy-now-pay-later payments service. I honestly don't know where this industry is going. It's not a product; it's a feature. Presenting it as a seperate payment flow, or routing things through a browser plugin is a clumsy mess. There's always going to be support difficulties, and now you have an extra party involved in every transaction. The best endgame would be to just start offering a conventional card with the BN/PL payment model baked right in. This would be completely transparent to merchants, would work in places that a browser plugin will never (i. e. an in-person sale with a card reader), and force a competition on rates and terms, rather than providing an opportunity for exclusive contracts.
- kjaftaedi 5y agoI've been using the new Microsoft Edge browser quite a bit since its release and even recommended it to other people as "not a bad browser" It is now dead to me. I just don't get how such a large company can tarnish what is supposed to be a flagship product, by leveraging it as a cheap cash-grab that targets the poor.
