Bill Gates-Backed TerraPower Picks Wyoming for First Advanced Nuclear Reactor
- rektide 5y agoreturn of the Experimemtal Breeder Reactor II! which was going to be the basis for the Integral Fast Reactor/IFR. which presidential candidate John Kerry got cancelled in 93, 1994. largely siting proliferation concerns, even though the pyroelectric reprocessing supposedly isnt good for weapons grade enrichment. IFR designs got upcycled into GE Hitachi's PRISM. which has kicked around for a bit. some.on off proposals for building it. PRISM may become the (non power producing) basis for the Variable Test Reactor/VTR. an possible experimemtal reactor for DoE & research. prism also seems to be very similar to what we see here. the decoupled power generating stage seems semi novel. notably missing from many fast nuetron reactor designs in this lineage: there doesnt seem to be onsite fuel reprocessing- the integral in ifr/integral fast reactor. i'd love some details on what salient oieces have changed over the years. all seem to be a bit over 300MW. the IFR wikipedia is a good read? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integral_fast_reactor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integral_fast_reactor
