Why processes at airports are still so inefficient
- llampx 5y agoDid that really need a whole tweet thread? The gist is that many airports were built before 9/11/2001 and the added security measures since then prevent optimization of the check-in process. This doesn't take into account why even newer airports are so inefficient. I was recently in BER, which was opened last year, yet it seems just as inefficient as any other airport.
- hubraumhugo 5y agoI think this comes from the fact airports often enjoy the service monopoly, as alternative transportation is not competetive enough, people will curse, but choose the airport.
- markus_zhang 5y agoI guess anything related to security eventually evovles into a labyrinth of regulations. Look at how IT security is enforced: You have to use certain characters in your pwd and needs to change it every three months; You cannot install anything on company laptop without approval, blahblah. Comparing to this I almost feel airport security is god send efficient.
- hubraumhugo 5y agoTrue, it's all an ad-hoc or hodgepodge of processes that gets tacked on over the years/decades without any regards to efficiency.
