I wrote it before an English translation was published, so I called it "fatigue society", which I still think is a more appropriate term than burnout society.
(Knowing that the essay is more than a decade old should help explain the strong assertion right off the bat that we aren't living in a "viral" age.)
- atoav 5y agoThe German title of his book is "Ermüdungsgesellschaft" which literally translates to "fatigue society". Han lives and works in Berlin, as a professor of philosophy I am not sure if he writes in German or English tho.
- bloak 5y agoAmazon's description of "The Burnout Society" says: "His work is presented here in English for the first time." Interestingly, Amazon doesn't say anything about the book being a translation, but goodreads.com names the translator.
- mudita 5y ago"Ermüdungsgesellschaft" is indeed the original title, it was written in German and published in 2010. The translated English version came out in 2015.
- waschl 5y agoThe book is called „Müdigkeitsgesellschaft“
- atoav 5y agoAh yeah thanks for the correction, I am not sure why my memory faild me there.
- lcam84 5y agoIn Portugal is "Sociedade do Cansaço" which translates to "fatigue society"
