Show HN: Outage Bingo
- ricardo81 5y agoCentralisation hell on a bingo card.
- echelon 5y agoSome of these TLDs are insane. This is about as obscure as ".horse"
- mynameismon 5y agoWouldn't Twitch also count for the breach?
- notamy 5y agoTwitch was last month! New cards are made for each month.
- mynameismon 5y agoI didn't even realise it was in October.
- notamy 5y agoYou can see previous months by changing the `month` querystring param, see ex. https://outage.bingo/?month=0&seed=26316 https://outage.bingo/?month=0&seed=26316 for last month
- jalgos_eminator 5y agoI have strategically picked my card and all I need is a major DNS provider and reddit to go down. Hopefully I get a real prize and not just my data being leaked. https://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=69420 https://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=69420
- CodesInChaos 5y agohttps://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=39919 https://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=39919 is similar. Either reddit+dns or apple by itself would be enough

- skykooler 5y agoMy first spin has bingo already: https://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=81405 https://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=81405
- bgirard 5y agoI got a bingo after checking 5 seeds: https://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=47392 https://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=47392
- kaetemi 5y agoBingo. https://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=46935 https://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=46935

- mmastrac 5y agoThat saved me from clicking another few hundred times, thanks.

- ComputerGuru 5y agoAww, no confetti and BINGO! popup or marquee?
- notamy 5y agoOh that's a great idea! I've written it down ^^ https://github.com/queer/outage.bingo/issues/7 https://github.com/queer/outage.bingo/issues/7
- qwertox 5y ago"Written it down"
- rodentman87 5y agoJust got added, with a little secret in case the tech world starts on fire and we fill the whole card
- one_off_comment 5y ago
- remram 5y agoIt would be cool if we could use alphanumerical seeds, so we can use our username instead of picking a seed "randomly" (or strategically)
- KennyBlanken 5y agoCute, but Comcast was 5 days ago GCP was 4 days ago Facebook was 13 days ago Robinhood was 7 days ago (and seriously strains "a major cryptocurrency service." it's a retail stock trading platform that happens to trade crypto.)
- mmastrac 5y agoThe card is for all of November '21
- notamy 5y agoYup! Cards are monthly (and created manually so we can adjusted based on previous months of outages/breaches)
- dubcanada 5y agoGCP was today actually.
- notamy 5y agoRobinhood was one that we (me + friends) were a bit on the fence about, since it does -- as you say -- get really close to the edge, but it seemed close-enough.
- LamdbaMamba 5y agoRobinhood probably still earns more than half of its transaction based revenue from crypto, with the rest being options and stocks. I think it actually does qualify as a major cryptocurrency service. https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/18/robinhood-crypto-revenue-jumped-over-45-fold-in-q2-to-233-million.html https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/18/robinhood-crypto-revenue-jum...
- DoctorOW 5y agoIf AWS goes down, taking Slack out then I get a bingo. There's gotta be an Amazon employee who can help me out. :) https://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=34828 https://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=34828
- dylan604 5y agopsst, i know a guy. meet me by the bicycle racks at 3pm
- jacktheturtle 5y agolol which ones
- JrProgrammer 5y agohttps://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=79313 https://outage.bingo/?month=1&seed=79313 Just need Apple to go down :)
- capableweb 5y ago"A major cryptocurrency service" links to https://thehackernews.com/2021/11/robinhood-trading-app-suffers-data.html https://thehackernews.com/2021/11/robinhood-trading-app-suff..., not sure if it's on purpose or by mistake? Robinhood is not a major service in the cryptocurrency space.
- samstave 5y agoWHERE THE FUCK IS @PATIO11 ON THIS MATTER!!!?? --- I love this! WEhat would be really awesome would be: ANTI-PATTERN-OUTAGE-BINGO-DDOS-VOTE : "Who should the botnet go after?" And have users bot-vote the target of whatever version of LOIC they can muster... (And a BLUE version - which is users dedicated to protecting such site) -- Im smelling a click-game here... Anyone? A N Y O N E ?> ? ?
- samstave 5y agoThis is going to be Internet Gold right here.
- sdenton4 5y agoJust needs some integration with InTrade....
- bberenberg 5y agoI would love to be able to set this up by submitting some group of statuspages as a data source.
- danShumway 5y agoHave we seriously not already had a major VPN leak? We must have had one by now, right? I vaguely feel like more of these cards should already be blue? But maybe I'm just quibbling over what "major" means or how long in the past we should go to look. --- Regardless, fun project, I like the idea a lot. I'll also add my vote alongside other commentors that I'd love to be able to use names as seeds. Edit: hah, looks like a pull request is already merged (https://github.com/queer/outage.bingo/pull/9/files https://github.com/queer/outage.bingo/pull/9/files).
- notamy 5y agoCards are per-month; see ex. last month's card here https://outage.bingo/?month=0&seed=26316 https://outage.bingo/?month=0&seed=26316
- danShumway 5y agoThanks, that makes a lot more sense.
- leetrout 5y agoReminds me: Dyn is now under Oracle.
- hirundo 5y agoI read this as Outrage Bingo. Now I want that. If you build it, we will come. You could auto-generate squares with the Twitter API. Twitter, the Outrage Propagation As A Service platform. Mark the square if its term appears in a headline on the HN front page. The number of bingos will be inversely correlated with the quality of the HN feed. It could be used for QA.
- monkeybutton 5y agoSame. The Bingo tld is clearly under utilized in playful and or sarcastic applications. Now there's a place I to put my corporate townhall bingo cards..
- notamy 5y agoOoh that sounds like a fun idea :D Maybe soon.
- djbusby 5y agoTwitter: Platform (for) Outrage Optimisation (and) Propagation or "POOP"
- acidburnNSA 5y agoI love bingo cards as commentary. I became 'well known' in the nuclear industry for passing out 'Nuclear Renaissance Bingo' cards at a national meeting during a keynote whilst pretending it was official. Since then I've recently revived my bingo card generator. It defaults to nuclear things but you can actually write your own options and then share the URL with your custom options encoded into the URL. Fun for zoom meetings for sure. https://whatisnuclear.com/bingo.html https://whatisnuclear.com/bingo.html
- capableweb 5y agoThat's very cool, thanks for sharing your story :) If you find a way to monetize it, you can become the next patio11, eventually get hired by Stripe (or whatever is the cool finance startup in about 10 years) and start ranting about how the new financial ecosystem being built at the time is nothing like $NextStripe.
- fotta 5y agoShouldn't the FBI's email vulnerability over the last weekend count for "A government entity"?
- notamy 5y agoYes it should! Thanks for the catch :D Edit: This has been added!
- __s 5y ago> A major code hosting service (Github, PyPI, NPM, etc.) Looks like there's two free spaces on these sheets
- bastardoperator 5y agoDid anyone get Roblox last month?
- jedberg 5y agoNo Netflix? Not sure if I should be proud or insulted. :)
- blitzar 5y agoIts right there in the middle - labeled Free Space
