A few years back mattresses were full of springs and padding etc, were huge and bulky.
Now they are made of layered open cell foam(several layers with different natures( plus a cover. They then found they could shrink the volume of the mattress by ~~75% or so by putting it in a heavy plastic bag - suck out 90% of the air and the air pressure flattens it and ship the resulting mattress as a far smaller package. It weighs the same, 40-50 pounds of foam worth $3 a pound, plus the mattress cover, and sell it for ?? $1000? You can afford a 100 night warranty ~ about 10% want their $$ back. I expect competition to soon bring the price down - no secrets or patents here.
Time will tell.
Want some fun next Halloween? Stick a few pins in a Casper delivery box and watch the mattress muscle it's way out....
