Everyone told us to apply, regardless of income. We were told that my private insurance insurance only covers so much and will be capped at X (either $ or hours). Medicaid would supplement the rest. For instance, my private insurance offered something like 50 nights of care per year. Medicaid offered, I forget, but with Medicaid, unbeknownst to us, there were limitations that didn't apply when using my private insurance, such as only one parent could be in the house, the nurse would need to document exactly what the parent was doing during that time, etc.
