PinePhone's official keyboard add-on will turn it into a tiny Linux PC
- rektide 5y agoi love it. but i also think for most folk there's better options, if you really do want a usable mini-pc. get a small folding bluetooth keyboard. then you can put your phone at eye level, and have a much better typing device to type on at desk level. you could do this all day and it'd be a fine machine. admittedly the combo won't be as thin/pocketable. but nothing makes me sad like seeing people at coffee shops hunched over looking at their laptops, and you on your phone could have a much better experience if you'd only figure out how to decouple your screen from the keyboard. i think one could semi-comfortably do daily development on a phone+bt keyboard combo. especially if one can also add a gooseneck clamp-mount arm to position the tablet well to the mix. but just finding some random odds and ends around- a water carafe to put the phone on for ex- works fine.

- rektide 5y agoi dont see how that has a single one of the virtues i talked about??? you're back to craning your neck over to stare down down down into a screen. terrible form factor, looks like trash, worse than the despiseable laptop. you've got to decouple the screen & the keyboard. eyes should not be looking down near where hands are.
- pengaru 5y agoI find laptop form factors ergonomic, no neck craning here. I just don't want to be looking at a tiny phone display, regardless of where it's placed. And like your comment, also prefer a practical size keyboard. In case it's unclear, or maybe I got the model name wrong; I'm referring to a laptop chassis that includes battery+keyboard+display. It powers the phone, while providing external input and display for it.
