Couldn't disagree more. To me, an apology signals that a mistake was made, noticed, embraced, (hopefully) corrected, and learned from. There's no shame or opprobrium attached to an honest apology, and plenty of potential for improvement. There's quite the opposite attached to a person who blithely handwaves away their own mistakes without any acknowledgement.
