Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity Could Create Unhackable ATMs
- gus_massa 5y agoThe device seams to be a dongle like the old dongles to unlock software. They are using a new algorithm, that looks interesting, but I'm not sure it's groundbreaking. Then they use two dongles. I don't understand why that increase the security. If you can build a fake dongle or hack one, then it's easy to get a second one. Then they put the two dongles far away, and synchronize the queries, so light has no time to travel from a device to the other and they ensure that you have two devices. It's a very simple use of Special Relativity. I don't think it's new. (Perhaps there are some technical problems here, but GPS can synchronize things quite fine.) And the last paragraph about quantum entanglement makes no sense. You can't use entanglement to transmit information faster than light, so I don't understand how you can use quantum mechanics to break the check of two dongles.
