A dog has been mayor of this California town for 8 years
- mikece 5y ago"And a jackass was elected President in 2016/2020" (depending on your political affiliation). I still think Missouri holds the topper on this one since they literally elected a dead guy to the US Senate in 2010: https://www.wired.com/2000/11/posthumous-victory/ https://www.wired.com/2000/11/posthumous-victory/
- toomanyrichies 5y agoFor those who don't want to give the NY Post the benefit of their click-throughs: The town is Idyllwild, CA. Idyllwild is a "census-designated place", and therefore it has no local government[1]. The "mayoral election" is ceremonial and, in this town's case, was held as a fundraiser for the benefit of Idyllwild Animal Rescue Friends[2]. 1. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2018/11/13/2018-24571/census-designated-places-cdps-for-the-2020-census-final-criteria https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2018/11/13/2018-24... 2.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayor_Max_II https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayor_Max_II
- vgeek 5y agoThis happens all over-- http://www.rabbithashhistsoc.org/the-mayor/first-mayor-goofy/ http://www.rabbithashhistsoc.org/the-mayor/first-mayor-goofy... As long as they aren't lobbying for putting cats in cages or colluding with wolves-- who wouldn't want to have a dog mayor?
- aigo 5y agoPresume they have also elected a dogcatcher
