I am from a region adjacent to coastal Karnataka, where people desperately want railroad but likely not getting it in near future, due to environmental reasons. Railways hardly would impact the environment, but vastly decrease traffic and cost of travelling. The so-called environmentalists doesn't have a problem when the forest department itself is planting Acacia trees Willy-nilly in the fertile malnad region. But somehow railroad will destroy the environment.
