With respect, the BBSes continued to be a thing up to 1995, at least. I had an account on one of the largest dial-in BBSes in the world, in the form of Heller Information Services. I registered my vanity domain with them in 1995, when they first started having a real Internet presence. HIS was early enough to the game that they registered his.com and hers.com. My own vanity domain was much more obscure. I don’t remember when they shut down the BBS side of the business, but it wasn’t right away.
