The ‘inactivists’, tangling up the climate crisis in culture wars
- tuatoru 5y ago> a new tactic of dismissing green policies as elitist is on the rise "Green" policy as it exists probably is elitist. Policy that actually tackles climate change requires funding the retrofitting or replacement of all existing buildings to be energy efficient (multiple dwelling buildings, insulation, triple glazing, heat pumps, efficient lighting, etc., etc.), scaling up urban and inter-urban land public transport massively, discouraging air transport and private vehicle ownership and operation, and redesigning cities to be much more compact and walkable and with higher building occupancy rates. (I. e., fewer second or third homes or otherwise unoccupied or intermittently occupied properties.) All of that implies higher taxes and more regulation. It also requires riding roughshod over NIMBYs. It's a bit threatening, isn't it?
