  Except that it wasn’t B material. Although it’s a good article, the author gets one crucial thing wrong: it was in fact damn funny. Chappelle is a deceptively subtle and sophisticated craftsman.

    After reading the outcries about it I was expecting something, and it was very different than what the outcries led me to expect. His main point is that at the end of the day, gay and transgender (well, anyone with any sexuality) can succeed when they’re white, while Blacks remain Black. Not exactly insulting to anyone, and not wrong. It came off as a beef with the system and with fragile folks in a world of unfortunate reality (only female-at-birth will actually experience pregnancy and giving birth, let’s not mix individual projections with reality) not with sexual identity successes. Yes, framed by a guy who uses all the metaphors and lingo from a non-PC place. If you polled Americans in 1921 and asked which was more likely, Black Americans being fully equal economically and politically with whites, intermarrying at will, and as safe as any white anywhere in the country, or gay people able to marry and live open normal lives, I wonder which one they would have chosen.
